Why it exists
There were two kinds of teleprompter available. Free ones that scrolled text at a fixed speed and did nothing else. And paid ones that wanted a monthly subscription before you could record a single video, watermarked anything you made on the free tier, and in several cases quietly uploaded your script to their servers on the way.
Neither of those is a good answer if you need a prompter for a shoot next Tuesday and a church service the Sunday after.
The two decisions that shaped everything
The prompter is free and stays free. Not a trial, not a watermark, not a countdown. If all you need is to read a script off a screen, ScrollCue will never ask you for anything. The paid tier is for production: recording, backgrounds, voice pacing, and running multiple devices.
Nothing leaves your device. There is no account system, so there is nothing for us to hold. Scripts live in your browser. Recordings write to your disk. When devices pair in Event Mode they connect directly to each other rather than through us. This was harder to build than a normal client-server setup, and it is the single thing we would refuse to change.
The day pass, and why
Most people who need the paid features need them for one specific thing on one specific day. A launch video. A conference. A Sunday where the usual operator is on holiday. Charging a monthly subscription for that, and relying on people forgetting to cancel, is a business model we did not want. So $4.99 buys twenty-four hours and then it stops, and nobody has to remember anything.
What it is built on
Browser speech recognition
Powers Voice Follow. Runs on your device. Your microphone audio is never transmitted.
Browser media recording
Powers recording. The file is written to your disk by your own browser. No upload, no processing, no cloud copy.
Peer-to-peer connections
Powers Event Mode. Paired devices talk to each other directly rather than through a relay, which is why your script never passes through a server we control.
Compositor-only animation
Powers the scroll. It runs on the part of the browser that does not care what else the page is doing, which is why it does not judder.

Who built ScrollCue?
A small team who wanted a prompter that did not require a subscription to be useful or a server to hold their script.
Why is there no account?
Because an account is a database of people, and we did not want one. Pro access is a code tied to the name you paid with. It is a slightly unusual approach and it means we cannot hold anything about you, which is the point.
Does ScrollCue store my scripts or recordings?
No. Scripts stay in the browser on your device. Recordings write straight to your disk. There is no server copy of either.
Why is the day pass so cheap?
Because most people need Pro for one shoot, not forever, and charging them a monthly fee they will forget to cancel is not a business we wanted to be in.
