Why we built it this way

A free teleprompter that asks for nothing.

No email, no account, no trial clock. Not because we are generous, but because we did not build the thing that would need one.

Free plan · No download · No account · Nothing uploaded

Quick answer

ScrollCue requires no account because it has no account system. Scripts stay in the browser, recordings save to the device, and paired devices connect directly to each other, so there is no server holding user data and nothing to log in to.

Why everything wants your email

Because your email is worth more than the software. That is the honest answer. A free tool that collects addresses is a lead generation exercise wearing a product costume, and the product only has to be good enough to justify the exchange.

Which is fine, and plenty of good tools work this way. But it does mean that a lot of "free teleprompters" are really "free until we have your address, then a nurture sequence".

There is nothing to log into

ScrollCue does not have an account system. Not a lenient one, not an optional one. There is no user table anywhere. Your script lives in your browser, your recordings write to your disk, and when two devices pair they connect to each other rather than through us.

This is not restraint. It is architecture. We could not send you a nurture sequence if we wanted to, because we do not know who you are, and that was a deliberate decision made early enough that everything else was built around it.

So how does paying work

Stripe takes the payment. You then enter the name you paid with, and the app generates a code from that name plus an expiry date. You paste the code in. That is the entire access system.

It has one genuine downside, which we will state plainly rather than bury: if you lose the code, we cannot look it up for you, because there is nothing to look it up in. Download it when you get it. That is the trade for not being in a database.

What this actually buys you

Your script is not sitting on someone's server

Which matters if it is a sermon, a diagnosis, a legal disclosure, or an unreleased product announcement. And one of those is true more often than people think.

Nothing to cancel

The day pass expires on its own. There is no subscription quietly renewing in the background and no dark pattern between you and stopping.

It keeps working if we do not

Install it to your device and the prompter runs offline. It does not phone home to check you are allowed to use it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I really not need an account?

There is no account system at all. Not an optional one. There is nothing to log into.

How does paid access work without an account?

Stripe handles checkout, then you enter the name you paid with and the app generates a code from it. You paste the code in. That is the whole system.

What if I lose my access code?

We cannot recover it, because there is nothing holding it. Download it when you generate it. That is the honest trade-off for not being in a database.

Is my script uploaded anywhere?

No. It stays in the browser on your device, and paired devices connect directly to each other rather than through a server.
