Frequently asked questions
Is ScrollCue free?
The core prompter is, permanently. Smooth scroll, script markup, sections, presenter notes, mirror mode, cue line, red dim, theming, and every display control are free with no time limit and no account. Recording, Voice Follow, camera and screen backgrounds, Event Mode, and the OBS output are Pro.
Do I need an account?
There is no account system at all. Free features work immediately. Pro access is a code, generated from the name you paid with, that you paste into the app.
What is Voice Follow?
Speech recognition listens through your microphone and fuzzy-matches what you are saying against the script, then glides the text to wherever you actually are. It moves only while you speak. Skip a line and it catches up. It is a Pro feature.
What is Event Mode?
A Studio device that drives up to ten teleprompters, plus confidence monitors and a phone remote. Devices pair by QR code and connect directly to each other, so nothing passes through a server. Studio pushes the script, runs the transport, sends cues, and keeps a countdown that stays in sync everywhere. Pro feature.
Can I use ScrollCue with OBS?
Yes. It opens a chromeless window with just the script on a chroma key background. Add it in OBS as a Window Capture, apply a Chroma Key filter, and the script sits over your scene. It follows script pushes and transport like any other paired device.
Is ScrollCue a Zoom virtual camera?
No. It does not modify your camera feed and does not install a virtual camera driver. For video calls, either prop a phone below your webcam, or on Pro put a screen share of your slides behind the script so you can read and present on one screen.
Is the script visible in a recording?
Yes, deliberately. The script is composited into the video with the current word highlighted, which makes finding a specific line in hours of footage far quicker in the edit.
Does the recording have a watermark?
No. Files save to your device unmodified, with no watermark and no branding.
Where is my script stored?
In the browser on your device. It is not sent to us. Clearing your browser data clears it, which is the trade-off of there being no account.
Does Voice Follow send my audio anywhere?
No. It is processed in your browser on your device and never transmitted.
Can I use ScrollCue offline?
Yes. Install it to your home screen and the core prompter runs with no connection. Event Mode needs the devices to be able to reach each other, though they talk directly rather than through the internet.
What is the Day Pass?
Twenty-four hours of full Pro for $4.99, with nothing to cancel. It exists because most people need recording or Event Mode for a specific shoot on a specific day, not forever.
Is there a monthly plan?
No. Free, a $4.99 day pass, or $99 a year. That is the whole menu.
Which browsers work?
Chrome and Safari. Most of the display and scrolling works elsewhere, but the speech and media APIs behind Voice Follow and recording are best supported in those two.
Does it work on iPhone, iPad, and Android?
Yes, in Safari on iOS and iPadOS and in Chrome on Android. No App Store or Play Store download, and you can install it to the home screen.
Can I use it with a glass beam-splitter rig?
Yes. Turn on mirror mode, which flips the text so it reads correctly through the glass. It is free, and works with every rig, because they all use the same optical trick.
How do I mark a section?
Start a line with two hash marks. It becomes a jump point in the sections panel, with a live indicator showing where you currently are.
How do I add notes only I can see?
Wrap them in double square brackets. They float above the script for the reader and never appear in a recording or on an audience-facing screen.
