ScrollCue runs in Chrome on any Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet with no Play Store download. It installs to the home screen and works offline, and the core prompter is free.
Skip the Play Store
Search the Play Store for a teleprompter and you get a wall of apps with aggressive free tiers, watermarks, and a subscription prompt before you have typed a word. Some are fine. Most are not, and you will spend an evening finding out which is which.
Open Chrome instead. ScrollCue runs there with nothing installed, no account, and no trial clock. Chrome will offer to add it to your home screen, at which point it launches full screen and works offline, which is everything an app gives you.
Galaxy-specific bits
The screen is very bright, which is a problem on a dark stage
Turn on red dim mode. Modern Galaxy displays will happily light up a room, and everyone will notice.
Wake lock is on by default
The screen will not sleep on you mid-read, which on Android is otherwise a real risk depending on your battery settings.
A Tab makes a good prompter, the phone makes a good remote
If you have both, pair them. The Tab reads, the phone drives. This is a better use of a phone than squinting at it under a rig.
Under a glass rig
Galaxy phones fit most compact beam-splitter rigs. Turn on mirror mode and you are set. If you have a Tab, most tablet-sized rigs will take it, and a bigger screen is meaningfully easier to read through glass.
