It is not a talent thing

People assume some presenters are just naturally good at looking down the lens. They are not. They have a rig that puts the words on the lens, a pace that matches how they speak, and a script written to be said. Give anyone those three things and they look natural. Take them away and nobody does.

Lever one: placement

The closer the script sits to the lens, the smaller the angle between where your eyes are and where the camera is. Directly below is ideal. A few extra inches is more visible on screen than anyone expects, which is why people are always surprised when they watch back a take they thought was fine.

The camera-behind-script setup removes this variable entirely, because the script is literally on top of the lens's view of you. It is the cheapest way to get the effect a glass rig achieves with mirrors.

Lever two: size and column width

Too small and you lean in and squint, both of which are visible. Too wide a column and your eyes travel a long way left to right on every line, which reads as scanning even when the text size is fine.

Bigger font, narrower column, fewer eye movements per line. Aim for five to eight words a line. Most people set the column far too wide and never think about it, and it is doing more damage than their font size.

Lever three: pacing

A speed that does not match how you talk forces your eyes to dart ahead or drop back, hunting. That hunting is precisely the movement people register as "reading", even if they could not tell you why. Voice Follow removes it by making the script chase you instead of the reverse.

Diagnose it in fifteen seconds

Record fifteen seconds and watch it back at normal size, not zoomed in. If your eyes look like they are scanning side to side, narrow the column. If you look like you are glancing down, move the device closer to the lens. If your eyes look busy but you cannot say why, it is the pacing.

Change one thing at a time and re-test. Most setups need one or two adjustments and then the problem simply is not there any more.
